There is an interesting programme on Radio 4 available online, which follows the work of a contemporary iconographer as he prepares to paint an icon of the annunciation. Aidan Hart was a monk for many years, both in England and on Mount Athos, and eventually spent over six years as a hermit. He is now a highly respected iconographer. He speaks about his work simply and unpretentiously and is well worth listening to. Even the titles of the episodes give food for thought. The first is called ‘Doors Between Two Worlds’.
